PLACE AND TIME OF EXHIBITION, EXHIBITION TITLE:
Zagreb,Gliptoteka, 2009 ,10th Triennial of Croatian Sculpture
TEXTUAL WORK DESCRIPTION:
Work contains 9 new, unpacked, cheap Chinese shirts. My intervention on shirts comprises of personal elements from my everyday life.
Each shirt is accompanied with an appropriate letter, complaint, message or a memo with which an individual meets at least once in a lifetime and some of them every day. Letters are printed out and glued to the back of the box in which the shirt is packed. Boxes hang in space so that their back can also be seen.
The intention of the work is to use cheap shirts to emphasize our cheap identity. How many roles and how many template messages we use every day to survive in our society.
The choice of the shirt is my position about fashion industry in which I work and which is everywhere, and there is the question of individual’s identity relative to the industry, and to society as a whole.
My intervention on shirts that I used reflects psychological states of individuals in certain situations in life such as those noted underneath each exhibit. It also speaks about the packaging of consumer society, with everything being neatly packed from fashion brands to letters, complaints, applications, etc.
For example, an institution or a legal person owes you a compensation for your work for months, and use written clichés such as „would you be so kind to…“, „Yours sincerely“, „with kind regards.“, etc.
It shows how a small man survives alongside big ones…
